Cosmetic Surgery
March 2009 to August 2009
Publication date: Autumn 2010
NCEPOD is currently working on a study reviewing variations in organisational structures surrounding the practice of cosmetic surgery in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, The Isle of Man & the Channel Islands. Sites which carry out or organise the cosmetic surgical procedures listed here, will be included. Sites that only perform these procedures for reconstructive or health purposes will not be included in this study. Sites only performing non-surgical procedures will also be excluded.
This is a small-scale study, which will investigate the structure and case mix of teams providing cosmetic surgery, the type and number of procedures performed, the existence of protocols, records of patient information, consent and clinical audit.
Data collection has now stopped. Organisational questionnaires were used to collect data, which were designed with the help of a group of experts from the industry including representatives from the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (BAPRAS) and the Independent Healthcare Advisory Service (IHAS).
A protocol for the study can be downloaded here
There is one questionnaire related to this study:
