Cardiac Arrest Procedures Study

This study has been commisioned by Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership HQIP
as part of the Clinical Outcome Review Programme, under the contract awarded in 2011

Data Collection for study: Closed
Publication date: Summer 2012

Aim
The aim of this study is to describe variability and identify remediable factors in the process of care of adult patients (aged 16 and older) who receive resuscitation in an in-hospital setting. The study is investigating factors which may affect the decision to initiate the resuscitation attempt, the outcome and the quality of care during and following the resuscitation attempt; as well as determining antecedents in the preceding 48 hours, and possible opportunities for intervention.

For this study we collected prospective data on every resuscitation attempt that occurred between 00:00:01 on Monday 1st November and 23:59:59 on Sunday 14th November, via a short form completed by the person leading the resuscitation attempt.

In early 2011, we then collected data on the same cases via a spreadsheet, including the details of the responsible consultant in each case for the peer review part of the study. Having identified the responsible clinician in each case, they were sent a short questionnaire for completion and we have requested the following list of case note extracts to be copied. Cases are being reviewed by a multidisciplinary group of advisors.

The protocol for the study can be downloaded here.

There are two questionnaires related to this study:

  • Clinical questionnaire – we will only be sending out this questionnaire to cinicians to gain information about related cases for this study. To download and print this questionnaire please click here.

  • Organisation questionnaire – to gain aspects of organisational care at your site that is related to this study. To download and print this questionnaire please click here.
