Bariatric Surgery Study

This study has been commisioned by Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership HQIP
as part of the Clinical Outcome Review Programme, under the contract awarded in 2011

Aim
The aim of this study is to describe variability and identify remediable factors in the process of care for patients undergoing bariatric surgery for weight loss. The study looks at the whole patient journey, from referral to 6 months follow up. Name Tag

Patients undergoing bariatric surgery for weight loss between 1st June 2010 – 31st August 2010, were identified retrospectively via OPCS coding. A sample was then selected for detailed review (questionnaire dissemination and peer review).

  • Surgical questionnaire – this questionnaire has been sent to the surgeon for each included case. To download and print this questionnaire please click here.


  • Organisational questionnaire – this questionnaire gains aspects of organisational care at your site that are related to this study. To download and print this questionnaire please click here.

    (Whilst it predominantly focuses on those sites carrying out bariatric surgery it also includes a section for hospitals that may admit patients with complications of bariatric surgery.)
